Sonic Unleashed

This is the latest gameplay trailer. What do you all think?

Personally, I have to admit it doesn't look that bad.

For one, I really, really like the soundtrack. Hopefully, the whole thing doesn't stem too far off from this theme.

There will always be atleast one song that won't belong.

It looks okay. Just a big collection of gameplay from different sonic games.

I have mixed feelings about the game...

Gigazubyte ID:015441 2008/06/19 07:50:28
From what I've seen so far, it looks like they've combined gameplay elements from the Adventure games and Secret Rings, in a good way. It looks fun to play. But then again, so did Sonic 2006. Still, I'm catuiosly optimistic. However, I'm more than a little worried that the story will be groan inducing. Sure, story takes a backseat to gameplay in Sonic, but a good plot makes the game better, and if the gameplay ends up being only mediocre a terrible plot could sink it (or a great one salvage it, I suppose, but I've long since learned to look elsewhere for that)

It looks better than Sonic Heroes and Secret Rings,

Tails ID:018537 2008/06/20 06:53:20
but that's like saying puke tastes better than shit and piss.

Secret Rings could undeniably have used some polish...

Gigazubyte ID:015441 2008/06/20 08:24:11
but if you stuck with it long enough to gain a few of the better upgrades and get used to the unusual control scheme it was a pretty solid game, and it looks like this one is improving on the formula. Sonic Heroes I can't really comment on because I didn't play enough of it to give a good account. The team mechanic didn't appeal to me, but I didn't give it a chance to grow on me. After all, I love Sonic Adventure 2, and while I can A rank Crazy Gadget without too much difficulty now, it had me incredibly frustrated the first time I reached it.

Yeah. I mean I picked up Secret Rings with the feeling that it would be a good game..

Chaclon ID:018817 2008/06/20 21:02:04
But it's just lying there in the drawer. It was not worth the money. I'd rather play twinkle circuit from SA1 over 100 times or non stop, than Secret rings.
If I buy this one and get the same feel, I swear on my life I'll break the disc and not buy a new Sonic Game again.

Re: I have mixed feelings about the game...

David Rawls ID:018851 2008/06/21 13:41:57
I didn't mind the plot in either of the Adventure. In fact, I think it added to SA2 a lot.

I agree...

Gigazubyte ID:015441 2008/06/22 00:06:05
The plots of the Adventure titles are not the ones I have problems with. Sure, they weren't perfect, but they were good enough. It's later games that I have trouble with. Shadow's plot was awful, and Sonic 2006 was just a god awful trainwreck of ill conceived time travel.

It looks fun. :o

Why is nothing happening?

Tails ID:018537 2008/06/20 06:51:29
All it looks like is someone holding right and tapping the triggers every once in a while.

Is that even a game? RE4's cutscenes have more player interaction than this.

Re: Why is nothing happening?

Firestorm ID:014893 2008/06/20 07:38:07
From what I can see, it is a mixture of gameplay... The side scrolling and dodging just stick out much more in very obvious ways. The stage seems a bit fast paced for exploring the sage like you could in earlier games.

Which is different from most Sonic games how?...

Gigazubyte ID:015441 2008/06/20 08:27:44
The person did seem to be performing rather flawlessly, which might indicate that the game is obnoxiously easy, but then again trailers rarely have people making a lot of stupid mistakes, and it's certainly possible to make difficult stages look like they could be completed in one's sleep if the person at the controls has practiced the stage enough.

That 'insult' of yours wasn't funny or clever the first time...

Gigazubyte ID:015441 2008/06/25 06:41:16
it wasn't funny or clever the second time. It isn't funny or clever now. It is, has been, and always will be pathetic and rather obnoxiously ironic.

Re: It's not directed at you.

The Cat ID:011103 2008/06/26 07:00:59
Several things. His response still applies to you because it did not matter who it was that you were directing the insult. Those weren't big words at all. And, no one needs to reply to me, and many don't, unless they feel like it. I don't say anything expecting that it can be replied to. Actually, many things I say probably shouldn't have an appropriate response to, because it's more of a monologue or random interjection than anything. So, not replying to me doesn't mean anything.

First of all...

Gigazubyte ID:015441 2008/06/26 09:50:56
When someone attempts and utterly flubs a burn, as you have on numerous occasions, I'm going to point it out. It doesn't matter if it was directed at me or not; the target is irrelevant. Secondly, I use the words I think most appropriately convey my message. Just because you don't understand them doesn't mean I don't. For the most part I restrict my vocabulary to what you'd find in high school english, but here's a pro tip for spotting people who use big words to sound smart as opposed to people who use big words because the situation merits them. The latter will never, EVER use 'masticate', because there's no conceivable situation where 'chew' won't work just as well and be understood by a greater portion of readers.

Re: How is it Ironic? Tails is Ignorama. He is. What Irony are you talking about?

Galatea ID:015115 2008/06/27 21:41:28
It's ironic because YOU'RE not in a position to call anyone ignorant.

Precisely, Mr. "Nintendo is stealing characters"...

Gigazubyte ID:015441 2008/06/28 06:13:59
That you don't understand why it's ironic only emphasizes the irony.

Again, just because you don't understand what I'm saying when I call you an idiot in less direct terms doesn't mean everyone else isn't laughing at you all the harder for not getting my jabs at your stupidity.

Which you clearly are not. Ever heard of the expression "pot calling the kettle black"? How about "People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones?" Start with those and maybe you can figure it out. I don't give it good odds though, you're almost superhumanly dense.

Re: What position do I need then?

Galatea ID:015115 2008/06/29 23:30:56
Hahaha! Boy, you really are dense if you can't read threads to infer who I was actually calling the ignorant one. I'll give you a hint: it wasn't him.

Though, due to my nature, I honestly think you're just trying to get our goat, even more so now with that mocking Chao face, which is why I'm not going even bother...

...well, technically I am NOW, but not in the way I meant.

As a matter of fact, yes...

Gigazubyte ID:015441 2008/07/01 07:57:43
but not in any way that pertains to mocking you, not that a person disabled in the stereotypical sense would have any trouble with that either. In any event, don't mistake mocking you for losing one's temper. That doesn't require I be angry. That doesn't even require I care. I can mock you perfectly well from a state of nigh total apathy. You are an amusement to the intelligent among us, and don't ever let your misguided ego convince you that you're anything more.

because, you see, I have no vested interest in ending the argument. Because it's not really an argument. An argument implies some level of back and forth exchange. That's not what we have here. What we have here is you being oblivious and me making fun of you for it, and I'm not about to throw away such a ready source of amusement.

There's a difference between using big words to sound smart and using big words because you are smart. For example, I could say that you've got the intelligence of a Paleolithic Cro-Magnon, but it's much easier to simply call you a moron. Plus I'd be insulting our ancestors.

In any case, I don't care whether he replies to me or not. Not the end of my world.

Any sign of Chao? What exactly is it- a game that's looks 3D but it's only a cheap 2D rip-off?

Chaclon ID:018817 2008/06/20 20:55:17
Seriously. None of the new games which have Sonic in them appeal to me with the exception of Brawl.
It looks like the grim reaper is going to visit SonicTeam soon... they're dead for me.. Since Dreamcast died.

cutiefox ID:018483 2008/06/26 10:39:16
Consider this:

While chao were an excellent part of the Adventure games, would they fit in at all with these newer games? The story almost needs to exclusively feature chao to bring them back in a way that makes [even a tiny bit of] sense. :P

Firestorm ID:014893 2008/06/26 14:46:02
Chao don't really have any importance in SA2..

Re: Any sign of Chao? What exactly is it- a game that's looks 3D but it's only a cheap 2D rip-off?

cutiefox ID:018483 2008/06/27 05:25:36
Meh, SA2 is SA's sequel, it sorta slips itself in there...

Even if we grant you that...

Gigazubyte ID:015441 2008/06/27 07:16:37
It's not like they make any effort to make their story elements make sense, so I see no reason why that should stop them from including chao. I mean, they had a room full of chao in Robotnik's castle in Shadow for no reason and there wasn't any chao raising in that game, so again there's no reason they couldn't shoehorn them in in a similar fashion in a later game that does feature a chao minigame. At least then there'd be a reason for a bunch of random chao showing up in one of the levels.

The release date for this game??

Chaclon ID:018817 2008/06/27 21:14:37
I do hope that the sales of this one goes rather worse; the idea of Chao might occur to them for their future game if it turns out that the public doesn't like this one.

Re: The release date for this game??

Galatea ID:015115 2008/06/27 21:42:42
That or Sonic Team will go out of business and not make any more games.

There are numerous other things they could improve...

Gigazubyte ID:015441 2008/06/28 07:58:16
that deserve a higher spot on the to do list than chao, but leaving that aside for the moment I hope the games sales are in proportion to its quality, and I hope the quality is high. Not so much because I think they need anymore money as because I want to play a good Sonic game and if they make a good game I hope it sells well enough that they stick with the formula and make a few more.

Re: Even if we grant you that...

cutiefox ID:018483 2008/06/30 09:28:55
