Here's The Sonic Adventure 2 ending dialogue: (I played the whole game, and this is the scene that actually made me cry)


*Sad Music*

Sonic comes in through the door.

ROUGE: Where is Shadow?

Sonic looks down.

Sonic hands Rouge one of Shadow's bracelets.

ROUGE: Do you really think... that the professor created Shadow to carry out the revenge on all those who live there, on Earth?

SONIC: He was what he was. A brave and heroic hedgehog, who gave his life to save his planet. Shadow the Hedgehog...

ROUGE: I guess you're right...

EGGMAN: As a child, I looked up to my grandfather because of all the great things he accomplished in his life. He was my hero, and I wanted to be a great scientist like him. But... did he really mean to destroy us?

TAILS: I don't know. But what I do know is; we all did it together!

EGGMAN: You're right.

KNUCKLES: So what's next for you, Rouge? Off again to find more of those jewels you love so much?

ROUGE: Nah, I think I'm gonna give up this line of work. Too much work, for too little pay. Anyway... I've got something better than jewels that I'm thinking about right now... ...It'll all work out, you'll see.

KNUCKLES: If you say so.

SONIC: (Could he have... the Ultimate Life Form?)

AMY: What's the matter, Sonic?

SONIC: Oh, it's nothing. Come on! Let's go home! To the planet as cool and blue as me!

Everyone leaves the room, but Sonic stops at the door, and turns back to the windows along the wall.

SONIC: Sayonara, Shadow, the Hedgehog.

He leaves as well. The camera shifts outside the ARK, as it slowly orbits around Earth.

Giga...? Did Shadow actually die? If he is back in Sonic Heroes... well

I found out when I completed Sonic Heroes that the Shadow in Sonic Heroes is not actually the same one as in SA2. I remember in one of the cutscenes in Sonic Heroes It shows capsules with many Shadow the Hedgehogs inside.
Does that mean that this new Shadow in Sonic Heroes is one of the many clones? Has the one in SA2 actually died?

In the game Shadow The Hedgehog, I notice that the game is actually a past story. Its the SA2 Shadow's story. That's all it is!
...So that Shadow in SA2 is gone???

Shadow takes place AFTER Heroes, and the ending reveals that, improbable as it may seem, he survived the impact, although the trauma of it gave him amnesia.

Or, more descriptively...

At the end of Shadow the Hedgehog, if you wait through the time limit of the final battle without losing all of your rings, Eggman says (over a communication link) that he found Shadow after he fell to Earth, and healed him with one of his robots. So the Shadow from Sonic Heroes is the same guy. Also, the Shadow Androids haven't ever spoken, and have no Chaos Control abilities. Shadow also went Super, so it's pretty definate that he's real. Oh, and he had flashbacks of SA2... I >suppose< that Shadow could have just had implanted memories or something, but it's extremely unlikely, as he's been all Ultimate Life Formish lately.

Also, if you stay Super in the final battle of SA2 until the time limit runs out (try to be Super Sonic as much as possible, as it changes who's speaking), Shadow admits that Sonic is the true Ultimate Life Form.
