i left the gamecube on over night so my chao could turn into an adult and in the morning it was a baby what happened???

It reincarnated... which means that it got bigger/older and turned into an adult, but you had it on too long, so it reincarnated and started a new life (turned into a baby).

You left it too long...

It only takes three hours for it to become an adult, so leaving it overnight isn't the best plan.

Chao turn into adults after one about an hour when they go into that cocoon.
You must have left it for a number of hours when you slept. Thus it died and turned back into a baby. But this is good. If you wait another 15 hours and let it die again, the next time it comes back as a baby...

Give it all 21 animals and turn it into an adult- but you'll realise that it does not actually turn into an adult this time... It turns into a Chaos Chao, or a Hero Chaos or Dark Chaos (Pronounciation: Kay-oss Chow)

There are actually only 20 animals. Well, in SA2, anyway, which is where most of my chao are. I'm not sure about the first game. It probably doesn't make much of a difference, though. I suggest finding all of the animals and making a checklist before you add them, as you can only give one of each to your chao, or it will be messed up.
