Color of dark chao spike...

Is the color of a dark chao's spike(or hero chao's halo) random or affected by what type of chao they are(swim, fly, etc)? 'Cause I really want the turquoise spike when my chao evolves, and I have another chao who has turquoise and is fly type, but I want to make sure.....

I think it's affected both by type and by base color.

You'll need this help on how to make Second evolution Chao.
Firstly, you know that a baby evolves, right?
This is the new part:
Then it evolves again, once it has evolved once. This is called second evolution. However, this evolution will not require the Chao to sit in a coccoon. This evolution takes hours but, you can feed your Chao lots to help the process
go faster.
As you are a beginner, what I recommend you do is wait, and give Chao no animals on the time of its second evolution.

Simply keep feeding it constantly for two hours or So...
...Did you recognise the change in its appearance?
You did! You can now give it any of the traits e.g. Fly / Swim / Power / Run / Nothing
The appearance of Chao will change, along with the colour of its Halo / Spike / Sphere

NOW THAT IS THE ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION. WHETHER THE CHAO IS DARK, HERO OR NEUTRAL. Second evolution happens No Doubt!
