Feed your baby Chao lots to help it evolve- it will turn into an adult. When it is young you can give it animals or Chaos drives, and keep giving it fruits- you'll see the Change in the Chao. Chao will evolve into an angel if you use the Hero Side to pat it and make it white. Or it becomes a devil if you pet it with the dark side. After it has evolved through the coccoon, there is another evolution that your Chao is going to encounter as an adult. You can speed up the process by continuing to give it fruits. When your Chao starts to look a lot different, you can start giving it animals or Chaos drives to change its appearance, this time not through a coccoon. This Change is a gradual one.

Keep the Chao Neutral, and it can compete in both Hero+Dark races

Just take care of it with both Hero and Dark, you can give it Chaos drives or whatever, but it must stay in its neutral form. Here's the Chaos drive colours. The animals also have a coloured background which resembles the Chaos drive. RED CLASS ANIMALS + DRIVES- Will increase power ability GREEN CLASS ANIMALS + DRIVES- Will increase Speed YELLOW CLASS ANIMALS + DRIVES- Will increase Swim VIOLET CLASS ANIMALS + DRIVES- Will increase Fly ability BLUE CLASS ANIMAL- Intelligence GOLD CLASS ANIMAL- Luck BLACK CLASS ANIMAL- None The last three are Special, you'll need them for puzzles in advance races.
