I don't know if anyone has posted this, but to get a shadow chao (the common type) pick a normal type chao, feed it green drives with a villain untill it evolves into the green trimmed goblin thing. Then wait a while and feed it more drives. the second change is only cosmetic it appears, but feeding it more green drives will turn it black and dark red (Later on after the first evolution), as well as add a couple more head protrusions(i'm not certain about the later part).
If you want to mix and match, that's fine, but all you need is green drives. . . The chao go through like three changes in their life i think. I'm not so certain and i can't test that right now because my mind is occupied with another game.
The process should take like 4 or 5 hours, waiting for the chao to age enough for the cosmetic change. This is from a hatchling.
