Electrolisis is one of the EASIEST things to do in the world. all you need is pure water, an electrolyte (a salt of some sort) and electricity (I use a solar cell. You can produce your own hydrogen and oxygen for your fuel cell of a hydrogen car as easily as having two sanitary plastic barrels, some hoses, a little lab equipment, and a hydrogen powered car of course. I'm not going to give details, because i might get in some serious trouble for that, but I will explain the process of electrolisis.
The Electrolyte is simply to help the electrical current pass through the water more easily. Take a hose, and make two holes at the same height of the two containers (barrels).
Seal the hose watter tight, air tight, and reinforced with resin, silicon, gorilla glue, whatever. make sure it can withstand some pressure. The containers -must- be nonconductive, as well as the hose. (no metal)
Take the positive from your energy source, place it in one barrel. the negative in the other. fill it with the pure water, and an electrolyte (tablesalt works, but not as well as Peter's Salt "Salt Peter" or potasium chloride (I believe). I'd have to look it up. Anyhow onward.
The passing of electrons (electrical current) Forces the separation of molecular bonds at either pole, since electrons are what tend to hold the molecules in place anyhow. . .
At one pole, you'll get hydrogen, and at the other oxygen, in parts equal to the combination in H2O
2 parts hydrogen molecules (they're the largest molecule) and one part oxygen.
When the two are sparked to ignite (can be done with an electrical spark) they reform pure (or as pure as humanly possible) water.
