Action Replay Doesn't Work

Yeah, I have an Action Replay. I have added character codes (amy, knuckles, and tails chao) and chaos chao codes(angel, light, and devil chaos chao). I was woundering one TINY little thing... HOW DO YOU ACTIVATE THE CODES!? As in, for example, pressing any specific buttons at all? Because I have the codes checked off and it doesn't work... Please reply if you know how to.

Those codes don't work.

You have to press a to choose the cheats you want dont over load it with cheats or else it will mess up your game dont choose 2 or more cheats that wil turn your chao into stuff [tails chao chaos chao omochao ect.]then press start and instructions will come on the screen
