Heh, new theory about the ARK...

Jon166 ID:017050 2007/03/16 18:08:08
I've been thinking about the end of SA2... If Sonic and Shadow used chaos control in unison, wouldn't a time rift be created? Silver and Shadow made one by accident, so... Anyway, if you noticed, all of ARK's broken pieces were back at the end of the game. Also, when Doom used the cannon later (even though that timeline wasn't the real one), it didn't crash into Earth. And Gerald was sane in later games, too. I'm thinking that when Sonic and Shadow did chaos control, the ARK reverted to its state before Gerald sabotaged it, leaving Gerald in a sane state.

Thas some pretty nise thinkn~

Um, Gerald was LONG dead by the time the games took place...

Those were recordings he made of himself. The one from SA2 was made moments before he was executed for treason. The ones in Shadow were made before Maria was murdered and Gerald went insane. And I expect that the crash into earth program was a one time deal. Why would he program it to happen more than once when the first time would destroy the earth?

I have to agree with nerd-boy here. Gerald's time was way before Sonic's. Even if he wasn't executed, he would be dead by Sonic's time.
He was an old man, much like Scott.

I'm not old! I'm in my prime!

Even I had a wife when I was eight years old.

Fine then, will you marry me?

Gigazubyte ID:015441 2007/03/17 11:41:46

No, she's already married to me, stupid.

Well, in this world you speak of, I think biggomy (sp?) is legal, too. O.o

I think the spelling is bigamy.

Okay first, what part of time travel do you not understand? 50 years makes no difference.

Second, that's the other possibility. Still, if they both did chaos control, time travel should have occured, even if by accident.

The fact that it time travel opens a portal...

Gigazubyte ID:015441 2007/03/18 03:17:20
through which they have to jump. There was no portal opening, and no evidence whatsoever that they did ANYTHING to make Gerald not insane. Even if they did travel to the past, time travel hasn't worked that way the times it's shown up. They would actually have to DO something in the past. And if they did, Gerald would never have programmed the ARK to crash, and they would never have had to stop it, and a paradox would destroy the timestream faster than you can say Solaris.

(lol @ last sentance)
But yeah, Chaos Control has been focused on the controller up to this point, too. They focused the portal over the Ark. But yeah, it's bending time and space, so whether they effected Gerald or not, it happened. And anyway, maybe Shadow "honored Maria's wish," as he was saying as he did the final Chaos Control, by somehow altering Gerald's life during Chaos Control. For all we know, he might have warped back to then, told him not to go insane and tell him that his invention (Shadow) did save the world from destruction. So then he didn't sabotage the ARK, and the ARK was put back into place. It didn't cause a paradox because the change in the path of time didn't take affect until the moment of Chaos Control, which warped it, completely intact, back into place. This didn't cause a paradox simply because they did it before it changed in the actual course of time. Or yeah, sure, maybe the simple way could be true. ¬.¬

And many paradoxes would have shown up later if Sonic Next Gen took place, mostly with those who took the emeralds through time with them.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and do you think the Chaos Emeralds transend time like the Master Emerald does?

That is why next gen is stupid...

And I have three words for you. Time travel BAD!

Time travel bad for Sonicteam, anyway. They're going to screw it up, and they're going to screw it up soon.

Time travel bad in 99 cases out of 100...

Gigazubyte ID:015441 2007/03/19 05:05:17
I have seen it treated properly in a very few cases. The Time Wars series by Simon Hawke is an excellent example. He introduces a concept called Temporal Inertia that explains why MINOR alterations to history don't cause paradoxes, and how major disruptions don't instantly end the universe.
