But yeah, that reminds me of a good point my older sister made. Your heart is just a muscle (erm that keeps you alive of course- I'm not trying to make it sound unimportant). It's your mind that controls your emotions, including love. I say that people associate the heart with love because... er well I'll just explain that later because I have to leave in one minute.

Because for the longest time the best minds in science...

We also continue to say heart because it sounds much more romantic (Romantic in the general sense, not relationship romantic) than saying the section of your brain that controls your emotions.

you can "feel" your heart beating whenever you think about someone. Also because it's related to saying that someone "means the world" to you (and the heart is the most important in determining whether you're alive or dead, even if it's mechanical. Also phrases such as "it's the heart of the project" etc), so people associate it with love.

Yeah, and even though we know the heart doesn't control love and emotions, we still say heart. I think that if someone says "heart," they mean the heart of your emotions, as in the part that is most important.
