If it because you gave him a certain animal then you just have to be patient and give him the animals that you gave him before you you gave the one that changed him.

Here's a bac-up plan for next time, but it requires sonic adventure DX director's cut
Make a chao copy and send it to the chao garden in Sonic DX then when you like mess up you can use the copy to un mess up over and over with a copy of the copy. I wish I done that with my first chao cause he got recarnated He done everything but the Dark races; he would had done them if he wasn't a Hero Chao. And if heys a little Cheat i found out if you didn't know it: buy an egg that costs alot like a Shiny blue egg then hatch it you can choose to do what ever you want with the chao. next sell the egg shell and get the rings after that don't save the game but hit reset and then go back and you should have the egg shell plus the rings you got from the selling the egg. And the best part is that you can do it over and over
