Chapter 1
Death or Destruction?
In the year 2037, the world hit the largest and most widespread
crisis in all of their history. Though they had tried for years to
create a substitute for their slowly depleating energy supply, they
weren't ready. On April 27, 2037, Earth ran completely out of fossil
fuels. For almost eight years, they had no transportation, almost no
electricity, and in most areas no running water.
One person in America had been working since he was out of
college in 2011 to find a solution to the problem. His name was
A. J. Mobius, which was later changed to Professor A. J. Mobius.
On January 24, 2045, he discovered a way to attract energy to a certain
point, while only attracting a small amount from each surrounding
particle so that it isn't harmful to anyone near it. Knowing that
absorbing energy and releasing energy in the same area would do
nothing, he created another object that the energy could be sent to
through electromagnetic waves. The source, a large glass jewel which
he called the Master Emerald, sent the energy in to seven objects,
which were also jewels and were called Chaos Emeralds, through the
seven fragments of light. He made many of these, and he distributed
them throughout the world, all given for free. For this accomplishment
and generousity, he was elected President of the United States, and he
was eventually named World Leader.
Though the world was now saved, it had been severely damaged.
It was almost impossible to change it back to its original state. At
the current time in late 2045, just one month after Prof. Mobius had
become the Leader of the Earth, the Earth was suffering from a
different crisis. In panic, the citizens had cut down almost every
tree and bush that they could get their hands on to use for fuel.
The lack of vegetation had slowed the cycle of respiration and
photosynthesis. In other words, the Earth was running out of
breathable air. To solve the problem, World Leader Mobius was just
given the bill to order 75% of the world's population, chosen at
random, to be exterminated.
World Leader Mobius was alone in his office, pondering whether
or not to sign the bill. If he decided to go along with it, the blood
of over 5 billion people would be on his hands. If he didn't, billions
more would die of suffocation. "What am I supposed to do?" he said.
"I doubt any other leaders had such a complicated decision to make.
Too bad there wasn't a way to stop the blackout from ever coming. If
only I had been born sooner." Born in 1993, he had been born at a time
that the world had just recently realized that there would'nt be a
future unless someone created a source of energy that would save them.
If he had been born earlier, he would have thought sooner about
energy creation. "There isn't anything that I can do about it now.
But I could try... Time... If only I had more time..." The World
Leader fell deep into thought, similar to when he had been inspired
about the creation of the emeralds. For hours, he sat there, thinking.
He didn't move. He didn't jot down notes.
Finally, at about 1:30 A.M., he came back to his body. "That's
it!" he yelled loudly. "Time! The unlimited power! It can be used to
send something back across time! If the emeralds were put together,
similar to putting the seven fragments of light together, you get
something more powerful than ever before! This super-charged object
would be able to move faster than a meteor in space, being able to defy
time itself... But what to send? Surely a person couldn't handle so
much Energy. Perhaps a robot could..."
The World Leader called the greatest minds and robotic
engineers together to work on this robot, that would be able to travel
across time using a single set of Chaos Emeralds. "It wouldn't be able
to come back, though," Mobius said. "For that, it would need a Master
Emerald, which would absorb all of the power given. It will have to
make the trip there, then it must be destroyed."
