There is no limit to how many replies you can make on a page, but there can only be fifty topics. See that 'write new post' button? Don't touch it. Click someone elses post and make a REPLY. When you get the hang of that We'll work on the more complicated stuff.

they weren't deleted, but apparently there can't be replies without posts, so when the flooding was deleted they turned into posts. Also, Deleting the flooding might not empty a whole page if there were legitimate topics before it started.
