"Are you a good hedgehog or a bad hedgehog? Either way, you'll have a blast playing Sega's Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, available exclusively for Nintendo GameCube. The very first game to take advantage of the Nintendo GameCube Game Boy Advance Cable, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle features 12 playable characters from the Sonic universe and more than 150 missions. It's one of the most massive games to hit Nintendo GameCube!

When the game begins, you get to decide whether to help Sonic save the world or assist Dr. Eggman in destroying it. If you opt to join Sonic and fight with the good guys, you'll control three different characters throughout your quest: Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. Evil-doers get to guide Shadow, Rouge and Dr. Eggman (previously known to Sonic enthusiasts as Dr. Robotnik). It doesn't really matter which quest you decide to conquer first, because you'll definitely want to play through both scenarios.

With so many characters to control, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle offers great gameplay variety. Sonic's missions primarily consist of either battling bosses or running full-bore through insane obstacle courses. Living up to his reputation, Sonic races through these stages at a speed which puts most racing games to shame. Along the way, Sonic uses springboards, bumpers, airboards and many more insane items and objects to get from one end of the stage to the next. Sonic can even grind handrails in his latest adventure!

Tails, on the other hand, takes a more methodical approach to his missions. Tails' plane transforms into a two-legged walking machine which the spunky fox controls from a cockpit. The machine can jump, float, and fire multiple homing missiles at moving targets. Most of Tails' trials consist of exploratory challenges filled with difficult jumps and lots of enemies to destroy. The more enemies Tails can destroy with one group of homing missiles, the bigger the bonus.

The dreaded dynamo Knuckles is charged with different kinds of challenges when

CONTINUATION: "he steps up to the plate. Knuckles' knack for gliding through the air combined with his ability to burrow into walls makes him a natural treasure hunter. When players control Knuckles, the objective is typically to search through a stage for hidden jewels, gems and Chaos Emeralds.

The abilities of each good guy are mirrored by the bad guys. Shadow shares Sonics' abilities, Dr. Eggman controls a contraption similar to the one in Tails' charge, while Rouge the bat can glide and burrow just as effectively as Knuckles. Once you master the abilities of one group of characters, you'll have no trouble defecting to the opposite side.

Despite less-than-perfect camera positioning on occasion, the overall gameplay experience is top-notch. Constantly changing challenges and engrossing cinema scenes make this game one of the most polished products to hit the market. Sonic Adventure 2 was originally released for Sega Dreamcast, but the Battle edition offers great new features like a souped-up two-player Battle Mode and an expanded Chao Garden.

Chao are cute little creatures which are very similar to virtual pets. As you progress through the Story Mode, you can pick up Chao power-ups and lost animals. If the Chao Key is found in that stage, you'll go to the Chao Garden when the stage is completed. In the garden, you can pet your Chao and give them the power-ups which you found throughout the stage. By carefully choosing which power-ups to give your Chao, you can grow a Chao with customized strengths. Your Chao will start its life as a baby, but as time goes on it will grow into an adult.

By giving Chao the lost animals you've found in Story Mode, you can isolate and improve a particular aspect of your Chao's abilities. If you give your Chao a parrot, for example, its "Fly" stats will improve. It might even grow wings! In addition to the Chao Garden, you can also visit the Chao Kindergarten. This is where you can teach your Chao lessons, have your Chao examined by a doctor or even buy Chao food from the black market.

When your Chao are strong enough, you can encourage them to compete in Chao Races or Chao Karate. Competing against the computer or a human player, you are basically just a spectator in these competitions. Your Chao's performance is based on its stats, but you can encourage your Chao by tapping buttons on the Nintendo GameCube Controller.

In addition to Chao Racing and Chao Karate, there are many other ways for two players to duke it out in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. Battle Modes include Kart Racing, Action Race Battles (running and grinding), Treasure Hunting and Shooting Battles. There are many more playable characters available in the Battle Modes, including Metal Sonic, Tikal, Chaos Zero and more.

Without a doubt, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle contains enough action and special features to keep you busy for a very, very long time."
