even if the point is only that you felt like doing it, so just saying it has a point doesn't cut it. You have to have a VALID point, and on this particular bbs starting a conversation is not. You are free to continue one in the context of replies, but making a new topic to do so is still a breach of protocall, mods or not. AIM and its spinoffs were created for a reason.
