Chao 2nd evolution is very different from the 1st, first of all, it slowly changes its form while in the garden(the constant color change of its antenna will let know that)instead of going through a cacoon.

there's no specific moment like the first evolution, no auditory clues, and the visual ones are far less blantant. The second evolution is a gradual process, and there is no cocoon involved.
