Well, chao breeding is not something you can really "suck" at, or be really good at for that matter. All of the recipes are out there, and it is pure luck most of the time - all you need to have is patience and the type of chao you want in mind and keep trying. (: Maybe you just have bad luck, like I do. x.o; If having bad luck most of the time makes you a bad chao breeder, I fit in that category, too. But that, my friend, is what the reset button is for. XD If you do not get the desired outcome, just reset it and try again. That is what I always end up doing and I usually get what I am trying for.

I think quality is measured in persistance and efficency, and only practice improves the latter.
